How to start a PTA

A PTA is an excellent way to bring together parents, teachers and others to raise money and to support the school. The average PTA now raises about £7,000 but fundraising is not all a PTA can do. A PTA can:

  • raise funds to help the school provide services and resources
  • run social events for parents and children
  • provide support for school trips and outings and other special eventsrun after-school and breakfast clubs
  • organise meetings to inform parents about education issues, especially when changes are taking place

More than a third of PTA-UK members run activities which encourage parents to get involved in their children's education, with a similar number working with the local community. And approximately 10% also report that they are supporting their school in the delivery of initiatives such as healthy school status. Whatever type of association your school decides to form, your pupils will benefit from the additional funds it will raise and the increased opportunity for parents to be more involved in school life.

PTA-UK has produced a free Start Up pack to help you understand what is involved in setting up a PTA and to guide you through the process. We can also offer Start-Ups a special joining fee so we can welcome you on board and offer our complete range of benefits and services including subscription linked insurance for your very first PTA events:
