Red envelopes with money, fireworks, outdoor markets, food
stalls, dragon boat races and parades are all part of the
celebrations which will take place for Chinese New Year. Has your
PTA thought about an event based on these
celebrations?

Chinese New Year is the longest festival in the Chinese calendar
and is a chance to sweep out the old and bring in the new. This
year Chinese New Year falls on Sunday 10 February and it is the
year of the snake.
Here are a few ideas which might work well for your PTA to get
you started:
Dragon boat races - A fun-filled and energetic way to raise
money. These are run by a number of organisations PTA-UK caught up
with one operater, Funraisers, that mainly organises races in the
South East of England. Find out more about it in our PTA
Magazine.
Chinese meal- A simple, valuable fundraiser. Talk to a local
Chinese restaurant and get yourself a percentage of the money made
on a set menu. Local restaurants will often be keen to host
such events in the early months of the year when business can be
slow.
Make your own dragon -Run a competition to design and make the
best dragon. Children enter their own mini-dragon, created from
glitter, boxes and tubes. Run a mini parade for fun. This
would be a great opportunity for a local business to provide a
prize and be promoted by your PTA.
