Recycling Christmas Cards

6 January, 2013 | National

Christmas is over and the tree is down but there is the question what to do with all of the cards?

Woodlands trustThis year Marks and Spencers will be partnering with the Woodlands trust to recycle cards. From January 2nd to 31st 2013 Christmas card recycling bins will be placed in over 300 participating Marks and Spencer stores across the UK. One tree will be planted for every 1000 Christmas cards brought into store.

Last year over 8.3 million cards were collected in M&S shops in January 2012 meaning the Woodland Trust was able to plant 8308 extra trees during 2012.

PTAs have also come up with their own ingenious ways to reuse cards, donating them to teachers for craft work over the school year or recycling them into gift tags for Christmas Fairs 2013.
